NEWS FLASH:
Meets Tuesday nights from 6 - 7:30
during the school year!
The good times keep
rolling with The Lakeway Church
AWANA
club. Our club meets at
the church on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, and we are open to all
area children ages 3 through the 6th
grade. We are still accepting enrollments for this year, so if you haven’t
joined yet you still can. If you enjoy fun, friends, games and learning about
Jesus, this is the club for you!
We are expecting a
large increase in enrollment as the fall sports season winds down. We will need
more adult and youth listeners to help our
AWANA
Leaders with their
small groups. If you are interested in getting involved with our
AWANA
club, please contact
Frank and Christi Crone at 512-261-0857.

AWANA is the acronym for Approved Workmen Are Not
Ashamed, from 2 Timothy 2:15. Registration is currently ongoing and forms are
in the church office. The program is for ages 3 years up to, and including, 6th
grade. AWANA teaches the Word of God through Scripture memorization and
recitation, group lessons and exciting games! Last year we had
teams participate in the Austin-wide Bible-quizzing competition, the city
AWANA games, and held our own Grand Prix race day! Meetings are Tuesday evenings from
6 - 7:30. For more information contact Doug Wolleat (261-4706) or Mary Ann
Rogstad (261-8219). Come join us!
We welcome all children ages 3 to 6th grade as of September 1st of
the current year. It's never too late to join in the fun! Last year,
we had over 140 children enrolled in our AWANA program! Children
are welcome to try the program out for 2 weeks at which time they are asked to
register.

Want to Know More About AWANA?
Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, or AWANA, is the title of Lakeway’s
Bible verse memorization and gospel teaching children’s program at The Lakeway
Church. Based in Streamwood,
IL, outside Chicago, AWANA International oversees like programs at
hundreds of churches both domestic and abroad.
Kids ages pre-school through fifth grade participate in Bible verse
memorization, large group lessons, and game time to introduce them to the gospel
of Jesus Christ, and to prepare them for Christian living.
Their motivational verse is 2 Timothy 2:15, which says “Do your best to
present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be
ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
The “Cubbies”, ages 3 and 4, learn that every person is born a
sinner, but that God sent Jesus as their avenue for forgiveness.
They work at home to memorize verses in order to complete their
“Hopper” or “Jumper” book in a years time.
They are rewarded weekly with vest patches and book stickers.
The “Sparks”, ages K through 2nd grade, learn
that they can be sparks for Jesus, lighting fires in others who do not know the
gospel. Over a three year period,
these children learn who God is, how He can change our lives, and what the Bible
says the future holds.
3rd through 5th graders are in the Truth and
Training (T & T) club. They
memorize verses which answer questions such as Why God gave us the Bible?,
Who is God?, Who is the Lord
Jesus?, and How does God want me to live my life?.
The Lakeway
Church
has sponsored an AWANA program for seven years and has approximately 150
clubbers and over 40 adult leaders. This
year the children will participate in Austin-wide AWANA Games, a Saturday event
where countless teams from area churches compete against each other in a set of
gymnasium games published by AWANA International.
In addition, the T & T club will send teams of three clubbers to
AWANA Bible Quizzing, another citywide verse recitation and multiple choice quiz
contest. Both of these events are
exciting, and the community is invited to come out and cheer the children on!
Our annual Grand Prix car race, similar to the Boy Scout pinewood derby,
is in late February and always brings out race cars in various shapes, colors,
and decoration!
AWANA
meets at the Lakeway
Church,
2203 Lakeway Blvd., on Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30.

Weekly
"Theme Nights" have added a new dimension to our program this year. We've
had crazy sock night, baseball cap night, penny parade for our Adopt-a-Club
partner and parents night. Most years, at least one of the
church-supported missionaries speaks to the kids. It is always really interesting and
might have given some
career ideas to many of the children! Come join us on Tuesday nights from 6-7:30 pm!
