The
Apostle Paul encouraged:
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and
admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16
Singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts
contributes to our ability to allow the Word of God to dwell in our hearts and
gives expression to our thankful and grateful praise. Our Music Ministry
invites persons of all ages to experience the rich contribution that music can
make to your spiritual life and pilgrimage.
Take advantage of these opportunities available to you and your family members.
Contact Mark Savage-Rains to enroll or if you have any questions.

The
CHANCEL CHOIR
continues to lead our 8:15 & ll:00 worship every Sunday morning. Attendance
this summer has been great with several new folks joining us.
The
Chancel Choir is enjoying their new red robes with two reversible stoles. They
are absolutely beautiful (and a little cooler!) We are so grateful to Phyllis
Oliver for her generous gift of new robes for the Music Ministry. Her gift
allowed us to purchase new robes for the entire Chancel Choir and the Handbell
Choir. We have extra robes available, so let me encourage you to join us as
well. With the more relaxed schedule of summertime, you would enjoy singing
praises to God with us each Wednesday evening from 7 – 8:30.
The
Handbell Choir
continues to rehearse during the summer. However, we are in need of one or two
more ringers. If you read music (even if you’ve never rung bells,) we would
like to encourage you to join us. It’s a great group of folks and we have a
good time making music together to present in worship.
The
Praise Band,
under David Butler’s faithful leadership, will be leading worship at Family Camp
on August 2. We appreciate the faithful service all of these talented musicians
and worship leaders bring to our church each week. And we will miss them this
Sunday.
Parents please consider these musical opportunities to contribute
to your children’s Christian growth and formation as you are planning for the
new school year:
Elementary School age children from 2nd
through 5th grades
are
invited to join our
Choristers
each
Monday afternoon from 3:00 until 4:30 pm.
We form carpools to bring children from school to the church. This is a fun
time of learning Bible truths, scripture memory and music skills by experiencing
music together. The Choristers sing in worship once a month and present a
Christmas program and a spring service of worship. Your kids will have a great
time and learn scripture, songs and principles that they will remember all of
their lives.
Youth are invited to join our Youth Ensemble on Tuesday or
Thursday afternoons from 4:30 – 5:30. (The day is yet to be determined.)
We are hoping to grow our membership and look for more
opportunities to sing. We are planning to put together a Joint Youth Choir
(with LTUMC & Emmaus) that will sing for the Community Thanksgiving Service in
November. The Youth Ensemble sings for worship monthly. Join us!

THE LAKEWAY CHORISTERS
meet MONDAY AFTERNOONS at 3:00 pm. They are currently on hiatus for
the summer. This
is a wonderful opportunity for your children. Music works with memory to help us
recall important spiritual truths like “Jesus loves me.” Music is a wonderful
gift of God given to all of us to enrich our lives, to learn scriptural truths
and to give expression of our worship and love to God.
Our CHILDREN’S CHOIR, for children in
the 2nd through the 5th grades, meets each Monday
afternoon, following the LTISD calendar. We pick the children up
from their elementary schools at 2:45 pm in carpools and bring them to the
church for this excellent program of Music and Christian learning filled with
fun.
The Choir is focused on using music
and games to teach your child about Jesus, the Bible, living like Jesus, worship
and musical skills.
In addition to the weekly Choir
Rehearsals the Choristers will sing for worship approximately once a month and
they will present a musical/special program in December. Parents will be asked
to provide refreshments, for one week. We will also need parents willing to
drive the carpools, parents to serve the refreshments, parents to help during
the music activities, and parents to supervise their play.
We are so excited about this
wonderful opportunity. I can assure you that God’s gift of Jesus combined with
God’s gift of music has the potential to change and enrich your children’s lives
forever!

Our YOUTH ENSEMBLE performed for the first time at services during
the Christmas season. This group is comprised of students from middle
schools and rehearsal on Tuesday afternoons from 4:30 - 5:30. Contact
Mark Rains at 261-6331 ext 23 for more information .
MUSIC MINISTRY OFFERS STUDENT MUSICIAN GRANTS
to gifted student musicians.
The Music Committee recommended and the Elders
approved a new program for our Music Ministry – Student Musician Grants. The
primary purpose of establishing this “grant program” is to encourage student
musicians to use their God-given musical gifts as offerings of worship in the
church. These grants would allow selected students to experience the nurturing
of their gifts by The Lakeway Church and encourage their families to join us in
worship. Interested students would apply for a grant and schedule an
interview/audition with Music Director, Mark Rains.
The grants would be awarded for a specific
one-time service/performance opportunity. ($80 per time – which would include
one rehearsal and subsequent performance in the appropriate Sunday services.)
These service/performance opportunities could include playing a hymn obbligato,
or accompanying the choir or soloist in addition to playing the prelude, the
offertory, communion music or postlude. Exactly what and how much the student
would play or sing would depend upon the instrument, the music in the service,
the proficiency and interest of the student.
The grants will be publicized
first
to students who currently attend The Lakeway Church by personal letter. Area
public-school music directors will be contacted (by phone and letter) about the
grants and encouraged to recommend students and asked to help publicize the
program in their classes. Posters and brochures (including an application) will
be displayed and passed out in the band, orchestra and choir classes and given
to private music teachers. If you are a student who has not yet graduated from
high school and you have musical talent you would like to share in worship,
please contact Mark Rains at 261-6331, ext.23 to apply for a grant.
These grants have great potential for adding
beauty, variety and interest to our Sunday worship while building and nurturing
relationships with talented students and their families. The grants will allow
these talented student musicians to experience the joy of sharing their musical
gifts with the church to the glory of God.

An important part of our worship is the Choir. This 20-30 voice choir
consists, mainly, of volunteers. There are, however, 4 section leaders on staff.
Some of the Choir sings at the 8:15 service. The full Choir sings in the 11:00 worship service and also performs in
special services and concerts throughout the year. The Choir rehearses
in the music room on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm.
This ensemble rehearses on Wednesdays at 6:00pm in the Sanctuary. We play
three octaves of Malmark handbells. We play in church several
times throughout the year and also play at Easter and Christmas. Even if
you've never played the bells before, it's a wonderful musical experience and
lots of fun!

The Praise Band plays for our 9:30
Contemporary Worship Service and rehearses on Tuesday evenings.
If you would like to request a hymn or contact the
Church regarding our Music Ministry please call 261-6331 or email
