The fourth annual Nativity Exhibit was held December 14-18, 2006.  The exhibit began three years ago when Alice Nelson of Lakeway, who has been collecting Nativities for the past forty years, put hundreds of Nativities from her personal collection on display, at the Lakeway Church.  Since then Alice has encouraged others in the church and community to share their Nativities and place them on display.  There has been an overwhelming response and this year’s Exhibit featured over 600 individual handcrafted Nativities, that have been collected from around the world by members and friends of the Lakeway Church.

The Nativities ranging in size from one inch to six feet were artfully and lavishly displayed along with tapestries, artwork and theme trees in the beautifully decorated Fellowship Center Hall.

The Theme Trees, a new feature of this years Exhibit, included a Tree of Loving Arms, Victorian, Crystal, Nativity, Children’s, Angel, Butterflies and Birds.

This year the exhibit also featured a “Manger Market,” selling nativities and other religious Christmas articles from the organization SERRV.  Your purchase provided income, dignity and hope to people in developing regions of the world.  SERRV partners with 90 groups of artisans and farmers in thirty-five countries to bring you gifts that make a world of difference.  The goal of SERRV is to alleviate poverty and empower low-income people through trade, training and other forms of community support as they work to improve their lives.

This is truly an inspiring display, thanks to the men and women who lovingly and generously give of his or her time and talents to bring the Exhibit about, so everyone in the community was reminded of the true meaning of Christmas.

Admission was free.

If you have nativities you would like to loan the church for display next year, or if you would like to help organize this stunning event, please contact Pinki Herrick, 261-9349 or pinkarts@aol.com.
