GARY RANOUS

Gary Ranous says that from childhood he has been involved in music and singing.  His musical background extends from his high school glee club days, through Officer Candidate School years, where he was in the drum and bugle corps, and his Squadron’s Officers School where he sang with the glee club, and to his years playing stand up bass in a bluegrass band, of which he is still a member.

After 27 years in the Air Force, Gary and Joyce came to the Lake Travis area and found The Lakeway Church.  Gary has served on the Building and Grounds Committee, and he served a stint as coordinator for the music that is provided for the senior living facilities in the area on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.

Melding music with worship, Gary says that a number of years ago someone at the church thought that a praise band might be a good idea, so he, along with Wendy Onken, Amy Zeller, Lisa Richter, David Butler, Dean Kline, Dariush Rad and Bill Aydam formed The Lakeway Church Praise Band.  Performing at the 9:30 service, the Praise Band continues today with some of the original players, Gary, Wendy, Dariush and David, joined by Steve Jones, Stephen McCarthy, Frank Crone and Mark Savage-Rains.

Gary says that from childhood he has always felt he should be involved in church.  “I got most of my biblical references from music that I sang and heard,” he states.  “As for Bible verses,” he adds, “I remember them most because they were in some gospel song that inspired me.” ~Sue Wright

 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 There are often short-term VOLUNTEER opportunities available and we scurry around to find people to fill the needs.  These are projects not requiring long-term commitment.  To be on this list, just call the church office or contact Dianne Wesselhoft at 494-4899.

FLOWER MINISTRY: If you like to arrange fresh flowers, or just want to practice, you will love this opportunity.  The altar flowers need rearranging each week for delivery to nursing homes and church members recovering at home.  Interested?  Contact Pastor Brent at the church office.
